What is it like working with me?
I use a graduate school adviser model of coaching. I typically act as an adviser, not a teacher or guru. I emphasize collaboration, self-discovery, and self-direction. This approach recognizes that you are the ultimate authority of your own experiences and meditative path.
What will our work together look like?
You are the Expert of Your Experience
I acknowledge that you're exploring the most profound and novel territory possible - your own consciousness. While I've spent years studying meditation techniques and the human mind, your experiences are uniquely yours. I'm here to share tools, perspectives, and practices that have proven valuable, and to teach you the contemplative skills needed for deep self-exploration.
Your Experience as Laboratory
I encourage you to approach your meditation practice as a kind of laboratory. You'll learn to observe your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and worldviews with curiosity, testing different techniques to see what resonates most with you. We’re going to experiment with the ways you approach your meditation, your life and your relationships. As you share your insights and observations, we'll collaborate to refine your practice and extract meaningful takeaways.
Guided Self-Exploration
While I'll suggest meditation practices and areas of focus based on established traditions and modern research, your journey is self-guided. I won't assign rigid "homework" or claim to have all the answers. Instead, I'll offer a range of tools and encourage you to explore what feels most beneficial for your practice.
Collaborative Partnership
Our relationship is collaborative rather than hierarchical. Instead of lecturing about meditation, we'll work together to deepen your practice. We'll combine your direct experiences with my knowledge of meditation techniques and the latest mindfulness research.
Respecting Your Unique Path
Every meditator's journey is different. My role is to support, guide, and offer perspective as you navigate the subtle terrains of your mind and develop your personal meditation practice. Ultimately, my goal is to make myself obsolete. I want to leave you with all the tools, techniques, and views you need to navigate everything life throws at you.
My goal is to foster self-reliance, self-direction, and confidence in your ability to orient your life and your meditation practice long after our work together concludes.
